Once upon a time, in Woodstock of Oxford County, a mother and daughter dreamed of one day owning a quirky and intimate theatre that would be full of quixotic allure; a venue for the arts, a creative space full of imagination, and a place for people of all ages and walks of life. In 2013, after a year of praying and searching for the right building, an old apple storage cooler, on 225 Main Street, was deemed the right place for the mother and daughter's dream to come true.
It took three months of long days to prepare the space to be what we envisioned. I, Jessica, (the daughter), had started dreaming, in University, about a world full of pirates and fairies. Children would enter the 3-D world and be led on role play adventures.
I wanted a space where we could have trees, a pirate ship, secret spots that looked like caves, and the insides of trees for children to discover.
I, Kim, (the mother), had dreamed of having a space where I was free to decorate and create an atmosphere that was eclectic and cosy, a place where all those who collaborated in putting on shows would feel at home, and a place where patrons wanted to visit again and again.
We are now in our fourth year of running a theatre. It is full of challenges and rewards but the one thing we have found, through doing theatre with people of all ages and walks of life, is that theatre nourishes the soul. It can be an outlet, an escape, a place of discovery about oneself and others. It is a gift that keeps on giving. It pushes people to their limits but is always rewarding. It brings communities of people together to share in stories that touch us so deeply.
We invite to be apart of our journey as we enter into our fifth year with a new vision and a new name!
Have a Kingdom kind of day!
Kim & Jessica
